We would like to thank everyone that made it to the meeting, and even those who wanted to but couldn't. It was the start of good things to come.

Garrett O'dell suggested it, and everyone liked the idea of that each city should hold at least 2 qualifying events per year and then send the top finishers to a "worlds" which Murphy Mack of West Coast Gold Sprints volunteered to host in San Fran.

Murphy also volunteered to talk to some of his contacts in the Industry to get national sponsors, which would make it easier to standardize on things like tires, chainrings, even bikes.

There's interest in this in Dallas/Fort Worth. Let me know we can help get involved.

It was nice to meet everyone. Put faces to names, etc. Any rough ideas on when we would try to stage the "world finals?"

I'm sure Vancouver BC would be on board. standardizing would be interesting though. I've sunk a lot of capitol into my system, and while tires and gear ratios are pretty easy/cheap to change, frames and rollers are not.

Moses, I think an agreement we came to at interbike was that we don't need to standardize equipment but we do need to standardize how a tournament will be conducted regionally so that when the championship occurs the competitors will have advanced based on the same merit.

Also a quick checklist of equipment would be nice to ensure the organizers are competent (e.g. are you using the same wheel size on both of your bikes?)

Once we've agreed to some standards for conducting our events (i.e. you run your events like everyone else and you make sure your bikes are evenly matched) anyone could hold two qualification nights in order to advance local riders to the World Championships.

The point is to be as inclusive as possible, and to target all goldsprints organizers, not just those using opensprints or people with similar bikes.

This is the key. It doesnt matter what gears or ratio you qualify on, just that you are the fastest guy in BC or Phillly or Burbank or where ever that event is. I am hoping we can prequalify 60 guys then have an open the night before the event for the final 4 spots. The way i envision it working if we can pull off a successful "worlds" the gearing will sort itself out. I like the idea that the SSWC uses in determining the next sight for the tournament by a non cycling event: Bowling, Drinking, Target shooting etc. Im excited to set up my tourney.

Any discussion in Vegas about when a national event might be held?

No decision yet. My thoughts would be April or September '10.

It might help to coincide with another large scale bike event: we can bus in competitors but it might be harder to bus in an audience.

If the event is in SF, Sea otter is too far away, Tour of California? May 16-23 i havent seen the route yet.

Sorry I was totally absent from the board for a bit so i am just catching back up. Questions.

Would there be an entry fee?

    Would there be cash prizes?

have we figured out what the structure for the tournaments should be?

Would there be assistance for long journeys? (probably not just a thought)

Should this be a separate thread?

I agree with Luke, that poster is baller.

Maybe there can be an grudge match time before the event, which will have a fee, and then we can go to the pros -- where fees could be waived.

    Would there be cash prizes?

    If we can get sponsors.

have we figured out what the structure for the tournaments should be?

Can we use the olympic example?

Would there be assistance for long journeys? (probably not just a thought)

How do the CWMC do it?

Should this be a separate thread?

    Probably

Seattle will definitely be on board- with each event we do, we get little more diversity in the crowd which is great.

I would propose that Nationals take place sometime in the fall- after Interbike- perhaps the same weekend in November that the San Francisco Bike Expo takes place? Just a thought.

Still running the 42BELOW setup here.. With the freewheels. For Nationals- would we run fixed or free? The more we use freewheels in Seattle, people see that it's more difficult and that the rider with the smoothest pedal stroke has an advantage. Seattle's top fixed sprinters have not necessarily been at the top when we switched to freewheels.

But if Nationals would be fixed, then we should qualify people riding fixed.

i like fixed because that gives me a reason to deal with all the stupid head aches fixed brings:)

DON'T PEDDLE BACKWARDS I SWEAR TO GOD I WILL GET ON THAT STAGE AND STRANGLE YOU WITH CAT5 CABLE!

Also Vancouver would totally be on board and i like the idea of fall '10. Gastown Sprints is really picking up steam (finally) and it would be fun to start interfacing with other communities around North America (and maybe the world?).
