The OpenSprints installer is currently only compatible with Ubuntu 9.04. If you have an Ubuntu 9.10 bootable flash drive, you must downgrade to 9.04. Repeat the process at http://wiki.opensprints.org/index.php?title=Creating_a_Bootable_Ubuntu_USB_Flash_Drive

When running OpenSprints in Ubuntu 9.10, the horizontal race indicators will not advance across the screen.

Is this related to the bootable flash drive only? I am running Ubuntu 9.10 via VMWare Fusion.

Karmic also seems to break OpenSprints when it's installed traditionally to hard disk. Is OpenSprints working for you under VMWare Fusion?

We have it "working" on 9.10 on one of those 42B laptops, but only following a very specific procedure.

    We...

    - Let the computer boot up.
    - Once booted, plug in Arduino via USB.
    - Run Software.

It runs totally fine until the software is closed. Once the software is closed it will not run again (bars don't progress) until the Arduino is unplugged and replugged in WHILE the computer is still running AND the software is closed. Restarting the computer doesn't do it, even if the Arduino is unplugged and replugged in while the computer is off. It needs to be plugged in while the computer is up and the software is not running.

While in the state where the bars aren't progressing during races, if you listen in on the serial port at any other time all the data appears to be coming across fine. If you switch to the opensprints terminal window while running the race though, you don't see any visible output.

We also have our orig laptop on 9.04 which I just got up and running on the new software too. As expected, it doesn't appear to have the same problem.

I don't know if all that is specific to our setup or across the board, but I thought it might be of some help to both troubleshooters and sprinsters.

    just an observation, no explanation:

Salt City Sprints LLC just had a successful event at a Specialized Bicycle Components Open House on 2/4/2010 using the latest version of 9.10 of UBR on a netbook which was a 9.04 upgrade.

Then I helped someone else setup 9.10 on a USB flash drive, they did all the updates, but they ran into the issue. So I had them go back and use 9.04 and it works.

So I guess we aren't out of the brush yet.
